Broader use of Dow Agro herbicide challenged by Environmentalists

It’s aimed at use with seeds that are engineered to offer resistance to the herbicide so that the fields can be sprayed after the plants emerge and kill the weeds without causing any harm to the crops.

Dow Agrosciences has made enlist. They are based in Indianapolis.

After the EPA in October gave approval to the use of the herbicide in six states the following were the states to be sued.

Illionis
Iowa
Indiana
South Dakota
Ohio
Wisconsin

The latest motions were filed after its use was allowed in nine more states: Kansas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississipi, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Nebraska and North Dakota.

Paul H Achitoff an attorney who is representing five of the groups said, “Our concern is the same as we’ve had all along, which is that this is a powerful chemical that has demonstrated harm to human health and wildlife and the EPA has simply not done an adequate job of assessing it before letting it loose”.
